Friday-C'est quoi un gipansin? What is a "gipansin"? Math- Continuing to review past Math concepts and finishing up decimals (how to express and adding and subtracting decimals). We have also been looking at decimals (relating decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals, equivalent decimals, comparing decimals and placing them on a number line). We will be continuing to review decimals for the next few weeks before I conduct a test. In June we will be looking at adding and subtracting decimals (this is something that can be worked on at home to expose students before I instruct. Do you often listen to music on an ipod or radio? Est-ce que tu regardes parfois des vidéoclips à la télé ? Do you sometimes watch music videos on the TV? Math- Over the coming weeks we will continue to review past concepts from this school year. Additionally, we are continuing to work through decimals and fractions (a challenge concept during the best of years). A test will be coming along shortly for students ability to: Describe and represent decimals (tenths, hundredths, thousandths) concretely, pictorially and symbolically (outcome N8), outcome N9-Relate decimals to fractions (to thousandths)and possibly Outcome N10-Compare and order decimals (to thousandths), by using: benchmarks, place value, equivalent decimals. Once I am confident that students are grasping this we will move onto adding and subtracting decimals. At home to prep for this you may try and have them look through flyers for items they want to buy at the store and have them add them up or give them a set amount of money and have them subtract from it something they want to buy. Homework- Multiplication and division review facts from 0-9 and reading each night. Extra practice homework may be sent home on Monday (as needed) and is asked to be returned by Friday. Happy Friday

Math-We are continuing to keep reviewing division 3 digit by 1 digit and interpreting remainders based on the troubles seen on the quiz. Additionally we are making our way through fractions (equivalent and their placement on a number line), the connection between fractions and decimals. Mrs. Goguen is working on measurement with the class. Brillant labs sponsored project- Building a Rube Goldberg machine. In small groups students began brainstorming and gathering materials to create a simple machine in the style of Rube Goldberg (a quick google/youtube search will show lots of videos and past creations). I am excited for what the children will create. We were even able to get microbits that will allow them the opportunity to incorporate some coding into the projects.
