Welcome back to the regular routine!
It was so great to see those of you who were able to come to our class presentation this morning! I am so pleased with the efforts the class made as it is no small task to work together let alone in a new language. This week we will continue to work on les vetements with focus on what we wear during the changing seasons. The questions this week include: Qu'est-ce que tu portes en ete? What do you wear in summer? Qu'est-ce que tu portes en hiver? What do you wear in Winter? Qu'est-ce que tu portes au printemps? What do you wear in Spring? Qu'est-ce que tu portes en automne? What do you wear in the Fall? I am pleased with the progress they made this past week with the new vocabulary and I know they will continue to grow and learn. I will be doing reading evaluations this week to see where their strengths and areas in need of improvement are in an effort to provide more support during class to increase confidence and understanding. Have a great weekend and a fantastic week! Katelyn Pettigrew

Happy March break to one and all!
This week coming will hopefully be one of rest and renewed energy. When we return back to school we will begin to officially finish the last unit les aliments/food through oral language testing (I will begin this March 11, presenting their final projects and maybe a little fun with food mixed in. We will also offically begin our new unit Les vetements(clothing) I have attached a copy of the I can statements for oral language below. Students will be working on Qu'est-ce que tu portes aujourd'hui? (What are you wearing today?), Qu'est-ce que ton partenaire porte? (What is your partner wearing?), Qu'est-ce que tu portes quand il fait beau? (What do you wear when it is nice out?), Qu'est-ce que tu portes en ete? (What do you wear in summer?). Near the end of the vetements unit I will be requesting students bring in articles of clothing for an activity (keep your eyes peeled for this in my weekly email!) Have a great break! Katelyn Pettigrew Bonjour!
It is hard to believe that we are finished our third week together as a class. I am pleased with how far the class has come (we still have a few things we are continuing to work on). This coming week will be full of reviewing all the past questions from our Les aliments unit and finishing up work before we break. I will also be starting our new unit Les vetements/Clothing. At this point we will only be discussing (as a I know some students will be away just before the Break): Qu'est-ce que tu portes aujourd'hui? What are you wearing today? and Qu'est-ce que ton partenaire porte? What is your partner wearing? I am excited for Winter carnival events and looking forward to seeing lots of participation from our class. I will be adding some student samples of work this week (to the student work samples section) for our class. Feel free to browse the writing from the last group as well. Have a great weekend! Katelyn Pettigrew Happy Family day long weekend!
I hope that you have a great weekend with your children. The second week has gone a little more as expected (ups and downs). Your children have continued to work hard and make good progress even with some minor misunderstandings mixed in. This week coming we will be focusing on Qu'est-ce que tu aimes boire? What do you like to drink? Qu'est-ce que tu n'aimes pas boire? What do you not like to drink? Est-ce que c'est nutritive ou pas? Is it healthy or not? and if time allows: Est-ce que tu sense fatigue quand tu ne manges pas suffisament? Do you feel tired when you don't eat enough? This week students will be working very hard on their Restaurant projects. I am excited to see their final products and I am hoping they will be set to present before the March break. I will send an email next week to see what day of the week and time is preferred for parents to attend this presentation. Have a great weekend and as always if you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to email me! Katelyn Pettigrew Happy Friday!
This week we have been focusing on foods we eat for supper and snacks. We also addressed Qu'est-ce que tu manges souvent? What do you eat often? Qu'est-ce que tu manges rarement/ ne mange jamais et tous jours? What do you rarely eat/never eat and eat every day? This coming week we will be discussing: Qu'est-ce que tu aimes manger? What do you like to eat? Qu'est-ce que tu adores manger? What do you love to eat? Qu'est-ce que tu n'aimes pas manger? What do you dislike eating? We may even start to discuss what they like, love and dislike drinking{boire} (if time allows). Students will also be working on a project in class to create a restaurant in small groups in an effort to show some of the I can statements listed below. They will be creating a restaurant including naming the restaurant, creating a menu, filling the roles of server, customers and possibly chef. They will also be writing dialogue to go along with their project/products. Below I have attached a copy of the orals language I can statements for this unit Mon alimentation. Have a great weekend! Katelyn Pettigrew Wow is all I can say about this past week. I can honestly say it has been a long time since we've had so many successive days off. I hope that everyone's homes and driveways are passable and that no major damage was incurred.
This week really threw a wrench into my plans but, we must go on. This week coming we will continue where we left off with Quel est ton sport prefere? What is your favourite sport?and students will do a small research project (they may begin printing articles etc off this weekend in preparation). Quel sport pratiques-tu et depuis quand? What sport do you practice and since when? These are the final two questions for this unit. My plan is still to have them present their final project but that will now be held off until they switch classes in February. It has been an amazing experience working with your children these last 5 months and I am very much looking forward to teaching them Science and French for the next term. Have a great week and weekend! Katelyn Pettigrew Happy Friday/Weekend!
This week seemed to fly by and again I am blown away with how well the class has been doing with both testing and learning the new vocabulary and phrases for our new unit. This week we will finish our questions about seasonal sports: Quel sport pratiques-tu en automne, et au printemps? What sport do you practice in fall and spring? (we didn't get to them this week!) and we will also cover Quel est ton sport prefere? What is your favourite sport? and Quel sport pratique tu et depuis quand? What sport to you practice and since when? This week we will also be starting research on a favourite sport with a presentation the following week. I may request they bring in items from home for the presentation (equipment, jersey etc.) More information will follow closer to presentation date :) Also a reminder there will not be school for students January 28th as it is a Professional development day for teachers. Have a great weekend and as always if you have questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me at the school. Katelyn Pettigrew Welcome back!
It is so hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks left of this intensive block. Time sure has flown. I am excited for all that students will learn these coming weeks and also to teach them science and French next block! This week we will be starting our new unit Les sports. The questions we will cover include: Est-ce que tu regarde la tele dans tes temps libres? Do you watch T.V. in your free time? Quel sport practiques-tu dans temps libres? What sport do you play in your spare time? Quel sport pratiques-tu en ete?En hiver? en automne? au printemps? What sport do you play in summer, winter, fall, spring? (We may not touch on all 4 of these this week!) In addition to progressing through our new unit I will be conducting oral language assessments and reading assessments for the Les vetements unit this week and students will begin their end of term independent writing piece. It is also with great pleasure I announce that the position in our class for Wednesday's that was empty after Mme. Gunter left has been filled by Mme. Brittany Beyea. I am very much looking forward to having her in our class that day. Have a great week and don't hesitate to contact me should something come up. Katelyn Pettigrew Happy last week before the holidays!
This week we are continuing to review our unit les vetements and we will finish it in the New year the first week back. On Friday December 21 I would really like students to bring in funny or silly clothes to do a defile de mode (Fashion show). I have done this every year and it is always both funny and educational! The questions we will be covering are "Qu'est-ce que tu portes en l'ete, l'automne, l'hiver et au printemps?" What do you wear in the summer, autumn, winter and spring?, Qu'est-ce que tu portes chez UN restaurante chic? What do you wear to a fancy restaurant? Quel est ton vetement prefere? What is your favourite clothing item? We will also be doing some fun thematic activities for Noel/ Christmas including some French stories both created by students and some that I've bought to read aloud. I am looking forward to hearing all about the holidays when students come back. Have a happy and safe holiday season and see you in 2019! Katelyn Pettigrew Happy December!
This week we began our unit on Les vetements/ Clothing (I can statements are located at the bottom of this post for your reference). Students are slowly becoming more familiar with the language and the vocabulary we are using. I am pleased with their progress and I look forward to seeing them continue to progress over the next two weeks. This week our focus phrases will be: Qu'est-ce que tu portes en automne, l'hiver et au printemps? What do you wear in fall, winter and spring? We already covered summer last week. At the end of the week we will work on Qu'est-ce que tu portes a UN restaurante chic? What do you wear at a fancy restaurant? Throughout the week students will be working on creating Holiday stories based on past unit information and I am very much looking forward to reading these and sending them home over the holidays! If they are working in a small group I will photocopy enough so each student can bring the story they collaborated on home to read with family. Have a great weekend! |
